Up until the Lockdown happened; most of us had taken freedom for granted. We would act the way wanted.. live the way we desired.. say anything that came to our mind – including insulting or saying mean things to people.. treated animals, birds and mother earth as if they were the guests and we’re the owners. – And why not, after all doesn’t google tell us exactly that – “freedom means the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without restraint.”
Here’s the small problem with this definition and I wish that google would take note and amend it by adding a line at the end, so that no one ever takes freedom for granted. And that is “Freedom also means being respectful to freedom of others around as well”. You are not alone on this planet, there are trillions of lives around us; who too desire and are entitled to the same freedom as you and I are.
So next time, when you see a caged animal, or a tree being cut, or a street dog being kicked or before saying anything mean to someone in person or on social media or ill-treating environment; try and remember that “Freedom means being respectful to others’ freedom as well.” Dear Google, please amend the definition of freedom. Because if anything we have learnt from these painfully long 4 months of lockdown, it is that definition of freedom has taken a whole new turn for good. Freedom isn’t free. Happy Independence Day.
