You Are Your Own Santa
The Christmas colors of Red, Green & White to me signify the importance of having food of each of these colors in our diet.
Red- Cranberries, Cherries, Pomegranate, Watermelon, Tomatoes – are loaded with powerful antioxidants. And help fight heart disease, cancer, vision issues that comes with age.
White- Apart from dairy products like milk, yoghurt, cheese, paneer- banana, pears, apples, cauliflower, potatoes, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, chickpeas, garlic, tofu, onions- that provide dietary fibre, potassium, vitamins, protein – are excellent for teeth, bones, skin, blood pressure and has many other benefits.
Green- Green vegetables are abundant in nutrients that are beneficial for heart health, like vitamin K, folic acid, magnesium, nitrates, and folates. Our daily diet is not complete without green leafy vegetables in all kinds of raw and semi cooked forms – spinach, fenugreek leaves, lettuce, bell peppers, broccoli, mint and coriander just to name a few.
If you recall the recipes I have been sharing – have invariably used these and many more ingredients. Let Christmas not be a reminder of only a holiday season or the new year party but also help revisit our food habits to build immunity. Medicines alone don’t guarantee the immunity; rather our food habits and healthy lifestyle would go a long way in fighting diseases.
