Breaking The Weight-loss Myth around Smoothies

Are smoothies good for weight loss? Here’s the answer.

Smoothies made purely of whole fruits and vegetables, and sometimes with a little soy milk, are wonderfully healthy and nutritious. But for losing weight, there’s one major problem with the smoothies are that they’re liquid.

Research shows that calories in liquid form have less satiety than calories in solid form. Satiety is a measure of how long you stay full after eating. So basically, if you had solid vegetables or fruits then satiety will be higher than having them in liquid form. Foods that provide the highest satiety for the fewest calories will help you lose weight because they do not force you to live with chronic hunger.

Anyways, smoothies are popular and I would always recommend making your own smoothies rather than buying from outside. Don’t get fooled by “No Sugar Added” unless you check the calories in the label. Or tag likes like “Rich in Fiber“ because processed fibers probably do not have the same benefits as naturally-fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Also when they say 80 calories per 100 ml then if the serving is 200 ml then you’ll end up having 160 calories.

One last tip, use honey as sweetener instead of sugar or any artificial sweeteners. Introduce smoothies with fruits & vegetables to replace the random snacks coupled with exercise and right food will take your health to the next level.
