Dalia Khichdi Recipe

You must have had Porridge for breakfast… so I wanted to use the same Daliya to make this super healthy Nutritious Daliya Khichdi.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbs oil.
  • 1 tbs ghee.
  • 1 cup dalia pre-soaked in water for 3-4 hours.
  • 1/2 cup rice pre-soaked in water (You may take some daal mixed with rice too if you like).
  • Finely chopped garlic.
  • Finely chopped green chillies.
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing powder).
  • Chopped onions.
  • Chopped carrots.
  • Chopped French beans.
  • Fresh green peas (matar).
  • Chopped cauliflower.
  • Chopped capsicum.
  • 1 tsp haldi (asafoetida).
  • 1 Kashmiri red chilli powder.
  • Salt per taste.
  • 1.5 cup water .

Methods

  • In a pressure cooker take 2 tbs oil and 1 tbs Ghee (Saturated butter).
  • Take some finely chopped garlic and chillies.
  • Add 1/2 tsp hing powder (asafoetida).
  • Adding lots of vegetables – feel free to add the ones you like.
  • Add  1 to 2 tbs chopped onions, carrots, french beans, cauliflower, capsicum.
  • Add fresh peas.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Time to add dry masalas.
  • Add 1 tsp Haldi & some Kashmiri red chilli powder.
  • Mix well.
  • Now add 1 cup dalia – which I had pre-soaked for 3-4 hours.
  • Add 1/2 cup rice which is also pre-soaked.
  • Mix well.
  • Add salt.
  • Add 1.5 cup water, stir the mixture..
  • Add coriander leaves.
  • Close the pressure cooker and wait for 3 whistles.
  • Let the cooker cool down.
  • Serve it with coriander leave as garnish.
  • Enjoy this variation to usual khichdi; you may use dal and rice mix too.
