Punjabi Kadhi Recipe

Punjabi Kadhi recipe is a delicious Indian curry made with chickpeas flour (besan), and yogurt (curd). Pakodas are made with besan and vegetables of your choice which is added to the kadhi and gives a nice crunch to the recipe.

To make Kadhi:

  • Take 1 cup curd.
  • 2 tbs Besan (Gram Flour).
  • Oil.
  • Rai (Mustard seeds).
  • Jeera (Cumin Seeds).
  • Methi dana (Fenugreek Seeds).
  • Water.
  • Sabut Red Chilies (Whole Red Chili).
  • Kadi Patta (Curry leaves).
  • Lasun (Garlic) finely chopped.
  • 1/2 tsp Adrak (Ginger) Paste.
  • 2 green chillies
  • Turmeric powders.
  • Salt.

To make Pakoda:

  • 1 cup Besan (Gram Flour).
  • 1 big onion very finely chopped.
  • 2-3 Green Chilies chopped.
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder.
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder.
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder.
  • Some fresh. coriander leaves.
  • Water or Curd to bind the mixture.


  • Kadhi Pakoda are made in 2 steps.
  • You make Kadhi and Pakoda separately and then later bring together.
  • I’ll make kadhi first, heat up the pan.
  • Meanwhile, heat up oil in another pan.
  • Take 1 cup of curd.
  • Add  2 tbs Besan or Gram Flour into curd.
  • Mix it well.
  • Take oil in the pan.
  • Add Mustard Seeds.
  • Add Cumin Seeds.
  • Fenugreek seeds go very well with this dish.
  • Wait till you hear the crackling sound of mustard seeds.
  • Add 1 glass of water in the besan curd mixture.
  • Mix well.
  • Add whole red chiles.
  • Add few curry leaves.
  • Add finely chopped garlic.
  • Add 1/2 tsp ginger paste.
  • Add 2 green chillies.
  • Add Turmeric powder.
  • Add 1/2 cup water
  • Water is essential to be added to the tempering.
  • Time to add besan curd mix into the pan.
  • Mix well and cook till you get a boil.
  • Once you get the boil, add salt.
  • Now keep Kadhi on the side.
  • Time to prepare Pakoda.
  • In a bowl take 1 cup besan.
  • Add 1 finely chopped onion.
  • Add 2-3 green chillies chopped.
  • Add 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder.
  • Add 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder.
  • Add 1/2 tsp Corriander powder.
  • Some fresh coriander leaves.
  • Mix it well.
    You can bind this with curd or water.
  • Add water & make a thick batter.
  • Take spoon-full of batter and drop into hot oil.
  • Fry pakoda.
  • So Kadhi and Pakoda both are ready.
  • Now add pakoda into the kadhi.
  • Bring it to one boil
    Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve Punjabi .Kadhi Pakoda with Rice.
