Breakfast Recipe: Vermicelli Suji Idli

Love this fusion of vermicelli & semolina into idli. The crunch of cashew, urad dal and flavors of curry leaves create unbelievable magic in the mouth. But don’t take my word for it… give it a try.

Complete Process to make Vermicelli Suji Idli

Ingredients

Recipe's Secret

  • 1 tsp oil in it.
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds (rai).
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi).
  • A pinch of asafoetida powder (hing).
  • 1 tsp split & skinned black gram (urad dal).
  • Some chopped cashews.
  • Some curry leaves.
  • Finely chopped green /dry red chillies (as per taste).
  • 1.5 cup vermicelli.
  • 1/2 cup semolina.
  • Salt as per taste.
  • Some finely chopped coriander.
  • 1/2 cup curd (dahi).
  • 1/2 cup or more water.
  • 1 small packet fruit salt (Eno) /1 tsp baking soda.
  • Some roasted crushed peanuts (optional).

Method

How to make?

  • Heat up the pan, pour 1 tsp oil in it
  • Add 1 tsp mustard seeds (rai).
  • Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • Add a pinch of asafoetida powder (hing).
  • Add 1 tsp split & skinned black gram (urad dal).
  • Add some chopped cashews and curry leaves once urad dal starts cooking.
  • Add finely chopped green/ dry red chillies (as per taste).
  • Add 1.5 cup vermicelli and roast it well.
    (If you have non roasted vermicelli then roast it until it gets golden-brown colour).
  • Add 1/2 cup semolina (suji), mix it and roast well.
  • Add salt as per taste.
  • Transfer the batter in a mixing bowl, add some finely chopped coriander.
  • Add 1/2 cup curd (dahi).
  • Add 2-3 spoon of water, mix it and rest the batter for half an hour.
    (If the batter is dry then add more 1/2 cup water).
  • Add 1 small packet fruit salt (Eno)/ 1 tsp baking soda.
  • Add some roasted crushed peanuts (optional).
  • Take idli mould greased with oil, pour some batter in it and place the idli mould in the steamer.
  • Cover the lid and cook it for 15 mins and then take out the moulds and remove idlis from it.
  • Serve it with green chutney.
  • And then your Yummilicious Suji Vermicelli Idli is ready!!!
